COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

BRUSH, FILE CLEANER

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description               by all federal agencies.

1. SCOPE.

1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (CID) covers a file cleaning brush which is a combination card and brush. The brush is intended to be used to clean the working faces of files.

2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS

2.1 General description.                The file cleaner brush shall consist of a wood block with a card on one side and a brush on the other.

2.2 Block. The block shall be wood with an integral handle, configured similar to figure 1, and shall have the dimensions specified by table 1. The wood shall be a closed grained and straight grained beech, birch or maple. The corners shall be rounded and the block shall be smoothed. One side shall be recessed to receive the backing of the card so that the backing of the card is flush with the surface of the block.

2.3 Card. The wire used in the card shall be steel with a diameter of 0.010 + 0.005 inch (0.25+0.12 mm). The card shall have the wires permanently fixed to a backing commercially used such as canvas, the backing shall not be synthetic. The wires shall be inclined or uniformly bent in the direction of the block handle. The wires shall not fall out or show permanent deformation when the card side of the brushes is tapped several times on a hard surface. The card shall be securely attached to the block.

2.4 Brush. The brush material shall be Tampico fiber, medium grade, natural and unbleached. The weight of the fiber shall be as specified in table 1. The fiber shall be evenly distributed and cut flat.
