COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TOWEL, PAPER (INDUSTRIAL WIPING)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description by all Federal Agencies.
1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers nonwoven industrial strength paper towels.
2. CLASSIFICATION. The towels shall be the following types:
Type I- Light duty
Type II- Medium duty
Type III- Heavy duty
Type IV- Heavy duty, Reinforced
Type V- Heavy Duty, Reinforced, Decomposable
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Material, types I, II & III. The types I, II and III towels shall be of single or multi-ply construction meeting the requirements of table I. The towels shall have creped or embossed surface to facilitate wiping utility.
3.2 Material type IV. The type IV towel shall meet the requirements of table I and shall be of a 2 ply (minimum) construction with a mesh reinforcement between the plies.
3.3 Material, type V. The type V towel shall meet the requirements of table I and shall be of 3 ply (minimum) constructin with a mesh reinforcement. The mesh shall be constructed in such a manner that it is not woven an is not bonded to itself prior to lamination so that when the laminated paper is removed it shall not form a cohesive net. The entire assembly shall decompose when tested as specified in 3.3.1.
