COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SCOURING BRICK AND HOLDER
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description by all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This commercial item description covers griddle scouring bricks composed of pumice stone and a reusable aluminum holder.
2. CLASSIFICATION.
Type I - Pumice stone brick.
Type II - Holder
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Type I, pumice stone brick. The pumice stone scouring brick shall be cut from a natural, gray, lava rock. The brick shall have uniform throughout in texture, free of hard particles that might damage the surface of a grill or griddle and free of noticeable odor. The texture and abrasive quality of the pumice rook shall be so selected that the finished brick is suitable for scouring burned food and carbon residue from hot grills and griddles. The finished pumice stone brick shall be 3-1/2” x 3-1/2” x 7”, (89 x 89 x 178, + 6 mm) in size.
3.2 Type II, scouring brick holder. The holder shall be cast aluminum alloy. The holder shall be designed to hold the brick described by 3.1 for the purpose of providing a secure handle while the brick is used to scour hot cooking surfaces. With the scouring brick in place there shall be sufficient space under the handle to allow comfortable grasping of the handle and to permit comfortable use of the brick. Any commercial way of securing the brick to the handle is permitted that does not depend on tension alone, the brick shall not come loose during use.
3.3 Workmanship. The brick shall be cut square with parallel sides. The bricks shall be free of any impurities, imperfections or defects that may affect serviceability, durability or appearance. The handle shall not have any flashing or sharp edges or corners that might injure a user, or any defects that may affect serviceability, durability or appearance.
3.4 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within tolerances specified and all other requirements of this document are met.
