COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BRUSHES, PLATERS, HAND
(SHOE STYLE HANDLE)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description by all Federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers two steel wire brushes with shoe style curve handles.
2. CLASSIFICATION. The brushes shall be of the following classes:
Class 1 – Carbon steel wire filler
Class 2 – Corrosion resistant steel wire filler
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Filler material.
3.1.1 Class 1. The class 1 filler material shall be a high carbon, round, oil tempered brush wire, 0.011 + 0.001 inch (0.28 + 0.02 mm) in diameter. The brush shall contain 1.1 ounce (31 g) minimum of this filler.
3.1.2 Class 2. The class 2 filler material shall be round cross-section, spring tempered, corrosion resistant steel wire, 0.013 + 0.001 inch (0.33 + 0.02 mm) in diameter. The brush shall contain 1.6 ounce (45 g) minimum of this filler.
3.2 Block (handle). The block shall be close grained, straight grained wood; or general purpose, impact resistant plastic.
3.3 Construction. The block shall be one piece. The filler shall be staple set. The brush shall be similar in appearance to figure 1, and shall meet the dimensional requirements of table I. The filler shall be evenly spread across the brush face.
