COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

CLOTH, POLISHING, (FOR ELECTRICAL CONTACT SURFACES)

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this

Commercial Item Description by all Federal agencies.

1.            SCOPE

1.1          Scope.  This commercial item description (CID) covers cloths intended for cleaning electrical contact surfaces.

2.            SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS

2.1          Description.        The woven cloth shall be cotton or a cotton and synthetic blend and be bleached white, lightly napped on both sides, and thoroughly impregnated with a silica based compound effective in cleaning and protecting electrical contact surfaces. The cloth shall meet the requirements of table 1. All edges of the cloth not selvedged shall be pinked or overedge stitched.

2.2          Workmanship.  The cloths shall be clean, cut square, thoroughly impregnated, folded neatly and free from fray or loose threads. The cloth shall have no defects which may affect appearance, durability and serviceability.

2.3          Metric products.              Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within tolerances specified and all other requirements of this document are met.

3.            REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

3.1          Regulatory requirements.            The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23,403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
